This week’s WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week†spotlight is on the super funky new single, “Quick,†from acclaimed Louisiana quintet Tank and The Bangas. The amazing song is their first release since winning the 2017 NPR Music “Tiny Desk Contest,” and it was also the submission that overwhelmingly won the band this year’s coveted honor. If you aren’t one of the over five hundred thousand people who have viewed the video do yourself a favor and watch it.
Tarriona Ball (Lead Vocals), Merell Burkett (Keyboards), Joshua Johnson (Drums), Norman Spence (Synth Keys and Bass) and Albert Allenback (Alto Sax/Flute), are all New Orleans natives and the sound they create together as a band embraces the diverse cultural style of a city where Dr. John, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Big Freedia, Hurry for the Riff Raff, Lil’ Wayne and many more talented musicians call home. Tank and The Bangas mix rhythm and blues together with rock, folk, hip-hop, gospel, and soul in way that truly defines the uniqueness that is New Orleans.
They have been called the must see act of 2017 and you are in luck folks because they’re on a whirlwind tour of the country, including a stop here in Boston on July 19th at the Museum of Fine Arts as part of the fantastic “Concerts In The Courtyard” series that takes place every summer. Tickets and tour information can be found on the band’s website.
