The latest edition in the WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” spotlight comes to you from Toronto’s psychedelic-electronic-dance band DOOMSQUAD. The Canadian quintet formed in 2010 and released their debut full-length album, Kalaboogie, in 2014 on Toronto label Hand Drawn Dracula.
Their new album is titled Total Time, which was released in April 2016 on Hand Drawn Dracula, and it’s a perfect mixture of dark, swirling dance-beats layered over hypnotizing guitars and powerful vocals. The band traveled to the New Mexican desert to record the tracks for Total Time and the change of scenery was clearly inspirational, as the music sounds like it was made for dancing under the stars, in the middle of nowhere, and without a care in the world.
I had the opportunity to see DOOMSQUAD at the Iceland Airwaves festival in ReykjavÃk last week and I can honestly say that they were one of the most energetic and entertaining live bands I have ever seen. Enjoy “Pyramids on Mars” and be sure to turn it up loud!
